History
It was born at Caffè Campari, Gaspare Campari's bar in Milan, and descends from the Milano-Torino, a mix of Campari and vermouth from Turin that had no soda water. According to the most often told version, it got the name Americano in the early 20th century because of its popularity with tourists from the United States. It is the first drink James Bond orders in Casino Royale, Ian Fleming's debut novel.
