History
Its creation is attributed to Erskine Gwynne, an American writer based in Paris who founded the magazine Boulevardier, published from 1927 to 1932. The recipe first appeared in print in 1927, in the book Barflies and Cocktails, with equal parts Campari, Italian vermouth and bourbon. It then vanished from bar literature for decades, until Ted Haigh rediscovered it in 2007.
