History
The origin is uncertain. One theory ties the name to the South Side of Chicago, where it is said to have been Al Capone's favorite drink during Prohibition, sweetened to mask a low-quality gin; another points to the Southside Sportsmen's Club on Long Island. Neither version is proven.
