History
It is the best known of a family of cocktails taken, half in jest, as a hangover cure, able to "revive even a corpse"; the expression corpse reviver was already appearing in Punch magazine in 1861. The No. 2 recipe was recorded by Harry Craddock in the Savoy Cocktail Book of 1930, with the warning that four of them taken in quick succession will "unrevive" the corpse. The original called for Kina Lillet, now replaced by Lillet Blanc, as in the IBA recipe, or by Cocchi Americano.
