History
It was created in the late 1990s by Italian bartender Samuele Ambrosi at the Castel Brando hotel in Cison di Valmarino, for an American guest who liked Daiquiris. The name is said to come from that guest's remark that the drink was so good it ought to be illegal. The original recipe called for tequila, later swapped for mezcal, and it joined the official IBA list in 2020.
