History
It is usually credited to Harry MacElhone of Harry's New York Bar in Paris, who is said to have created it in the 1930s as a variation on the Sidecar. There are competing versions: one says it appeared at The Berkeley hotel around 1921; another, that it was born in French brothels, where it was served as an aperitif.
